SNAKE RIVER SHEARING

ABOUT ME and PRICING (check out my facebook page "Snake River Shearing" for more info.)

My name is Mike and I shear sheep. This new hobby/trade started with the need to shear my own small flock, and at times finding it hard to get a shearer in this area, and/or getting the job done when I needed. And so I went to sheep shearing school and learned to do it myself.

I am still very much an amateur, so I am not going to win prizes for speed, and sheep shearing is incredibly hard work (very physically demanding) and thus, my back is still getting into shape…… but I can do the job and enjoy the challenge of improving my skills and speed.

That being said, I also have a regular, full time, 8-5 job, so I don’t NEED to shear sheep for a living. I do it for fun, practice, and to help out my community. Thus, I shear in the evenings and weekends, I stay close to home, and only when I have free time that doesn’t interfere with family commitments. And I also only do smaller flocks to both save my family time and back.

So if you have a small flock, live in or around the Tri-Cities WA, and need a local person to swing by and shear a few sheep for you, feel free to give me a call.

FARM CALL/SETUP FEES
• I don’t charge a setup fee as of right now. (most shearers charge $60 to $100 dollar setup fee)

SHEEP SHEARING
I shear sheep using the New Zealand method which is the most efficient and low-stress way to remove the wool from your woolies.
• Ewes & lambs: $35/head
• Rams: $45/head
• Special conditions: +$10/head
I reserve the discretion to charge an additional fee for sheep that are particularly moody, fat, skinny, sickly, horned, haven’t been sheared in multiple years, or are otherwise extra difficult.

GOAT SHEARING: $30/head
• I shear goats using a modified New Zealand method.

EXTRAS
• Hoof trimming: $8/head
• Banded castrations: $10/head
I'll provide the supplies to band ram lambs/goats. I will refuse to band if they are too old.
• Banded tail docking: $10/head
I'll band tails for young lambs. I will refuse to band if they are too old.
• Private shearing tutorial: $200-
If you're interested in learning how to shear your own sheep, I can give you a guided tutorial to show you how to set up your machine, position the sheep and safely shear through tricky spots. I'll go slowly through one sheep as I shear and guide you through another while you shear. Please note that 2 sheep will be shorn by the end of this tutorial (one by me, one by you).

TRANSPORTATION COSTS
• Driving time: price included for anything within 20 minutes of Burbank
• $30 for anything over 20 minutes up to an hour. I usually won’t shear beyond 1 hour from my home

MISC COSTS
• If the sheep are not ready when I arrive and/or if I have to help catch them it will be another $50 fee

SHARPENING COMBS AND CUTTERS
• I can also sharpen shearing combs and cutters for those who like to shear their own sheep. $2 per comb, $1.50 per cutter, and $1 cleaning fee per piece if they are not cleaned beforehand. You pay for shipping to and from my location.
