This excellent resin figurine is part of the Beachcomber’s International Collection of Limited Edition Nautical Figurines.

This sculpture is titled “Gauging the Depth”. It showcases a seaman leaning over the side of his ship with a rope in his hand. Years ago, before sonar, this is how mariners measured the depth near the shoreline or while they were navigating channels. The would have a weight attached to the end of the rope and they would count how many fathoms deep it was in that area by bouning the weight off of the ocean’s bottom. The detail work is incredible! The muscles in his legs, his intense attention to the task at hand, and many other fine points of detail!

The tag on the bottom indicates that this piece is from the 2000 Old Salts Collection Series.

This figurine stands approx. 6 ½” tall x 4 ¾” wide x 4 ¾” deep.

I cannot find any cracks/chips/scratches/etc. These figurines are supposed to replicate old mariners/sailors from another era – so they were made to look old and weathered. [Note: The line that resembles a rope in his hand and going into the water is actually very lightweight packaging twine. I noticed that it was starting to fray where it entered the water. It can easily be replaced, but in the interest of authenticity I have left it in tact for the new owner – though I did put a droplet of clear cement on it. I have taken (2) very clear pictures of the line where it enters the water. The key being that nothing has been done to the resin figurine itself. I have reflected this in my pricing.]

Over the years we have alternately displayed some of these figurines in our smoke-free house – in other words, we rotated them.

Original box and original packing included.

[Note: I did not list the item as NEW – as I understand it, NEW applies to never out of the box. But this item is as close to new as possible – aside from a couple of dustings, it has never been touched - it has only been out of the box for display and photographs.]
